The benefits of cycling
Why not make the most of the warm(ish) whether with a peddle!
Cycling is a great recreational activity which is fun, cheap and good for you and the environment. The funny thing about cycling is that almost all of us enjoyed it as a kid, but as we've got older, most of us have become more fixated on fast vehicles with four wheels...
WELL-BEING
Cycling can minimise stress and help keep you healthy – benefiting both the mind and body! There are many health benefits to cycling and studies have show that cycling can reduces the chances of heart diseases, and can also protect against some diabetes and high blood pressure. It's also a great way to loose fat and build muscle.
BUDGET
Bike riding is a cheap way of getting round! With public transport and petrol prices rising more than inflation, cycling is a cost-effective and fast way of getting from A-B. There's no need to worry about delays, traffic or running low on funds; as all you'll need is pedal power. There are prices to suit all budgets and many places offer cheap or even free bike hire services.
ENVIROMENT:
Cycling is great for the environment! For those of you who are concerned about your carbon footprints and the effect your lifestyle is having on the environment, find comfort in the knowledge that cycling is very environmentally friendly. I'm sure you're all aware of the major issues that effect our environment. The vast amount of motorised vehicles on the road is a major catalyst to the problems that we are faced with. Making small steps (or pedals) can make a big difference. Even if you're not keen on giving up your motor in exchange for a bike, you may find many benefits in having one as an alternative mode of transport. Plus with owning a bike you don't need to worry about fuel, traffic or finding parking space.
FUN
Going out with your friends on a big mountain bike adventure can be a lot of jokes. It's a n opportunity for you all to bond, take part in some friendly competition and explore different parts of the country which you never knew existed.
CAUTION
If you're an inexperienced cyclist or are not used to cycling on the road, its' a good idea to get some professional training and advice first. Most boroughs offer free or subsidized cycle training courses, which can be used as a refresher and give you the confidence and skills needed in dealing with and avoiding hazards on our busy streets.
