Aug 11, 2010
The fastest man in the world has been forced to call it a day due to a back injury
The injury was discovered after an examination by a doctor in Munich, Germany on Monday. Bolts manager Ricky Simms has said that the world record holder will receive treatment for tightness in his lower back.
The news comes following Bolts 100m defeat to US rival Tyson Gay. The race took part on Friday 6th August at the DN Galan in Stockholm where Gay ran 9.84 seconds beating Bolt who completed the race in 9.97 seconds. This was Bolt, 23, first defeat in two years. Gay acknowledged Bolts injury on Facebook: "I've had my own injuries in the past, so I understand his decision as well as anyone."The injury will mean that the Jamaican sprinter will miss competing in IAAF Diamond League track and field meets in Zurich on 19th August as well as in Brussels on 27th August.
Simms said in an email: "I am very disappointed to miss two of the top meetings on the circuit ... but trust that it is better for me not to take any risks this year," Bolt said, according to Simms. "2011 and 2012 are very important championship years, and I hope to be back fully fit and healthy. I would like to thank everyone for their support and look forward to coming back stronger next year."
Fans of Bolt can look forward to seeing the sprinter in fine form next year.
